|
For the past 15 years, Dr. Pavna Sodhi has provided counselling and psychotherapy in cities such as Halifax, Ottawa and Toronto. She has a strong interest in workplace, multicultural and mental health concerns. Pavna has worked with diverse populations including: addictions, mental health, sole support teen mothers, first- and second-generation immigrants, university students, special needs children and adults with disabilities. Her areas of expertise include: anger management, assertiveness training, anxiety and depression interventions, stress management, career counselling and enhancing self-esteem. Pavna’s theoretical perspective draws from the Client-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural modalities.
As a second-generation Indo-Canadian woman, Pavna has developed a genuine concern in reaching out to multicultural populations in her practice and within her research. With her knowledge and comprehension of the cultures and languages originating from the Indian subcontinent, Pavna feels confident in sharing culturally specific approaches that would assist her clients to alleviate their problematic situations and move forward in the counselling process.
Additionally, Dr. Sodhi understands the importance in heightening awareness and disseminating her research to a variety of relevant populations. She presents her research at national psycho-educational conferences and her work has been published in both national and international journals. Currently, she is exploring couple counselling interventions for ethnic individuals and workplace bullying issues.
Pavna received her M.Ed from the University of Ottawa in 1998, specializing in Educational Counselling and graduated from OISE/University of Toronto in 2002 with a doctorate from the Department of Adult Education and Counselling Psychology. She is a Certified Canadian Counsellor.
